Like most dog owners, we trusted kibble to provide the nutrients our pups needed—but deep down, we weren’t convinced. Frank (the pug) struggled with terrible allergies and patchy hair loss, while Louie (the Frenchie) suffered from bloody diarrhea and gas that could clear a room. Vets prescribed "specialized" kibble at double the cost, but the issues never improved.

Then, in 2013, everything changed. While waiting in the checkout line at Sprouts, we spotted a dog magazine with a column titled "Make Your Own Dog Food." Intrigued, we thought, Why not give it a shot?

That first recipe had just eight ingredients and required baking before breaking it into pieces. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a start. Each batch, we fine-tuned the formula—adding nutrient-rich ingredients straight from nature instead of relying on synthetic vitamin powders to call it "balanced."

The results? Frank’s allergies drastically improved, Louie’s stomach issues vanished (along with his legendary gas), and we realized we had discovered something life-changing.

At first, we only made it for our own dogs. But in 2018, after fostering pugs and hearing adoptive families ask, "What are you feeding them? Can we buy some?" we knew we had to share it. And so, in 2019, Frank & Louie’s was born.
